The HOLLYWOOD Summit Show will be in Malibu. Why?

 The HOLLYWOOD Summit Show will cover: THE JON MOAK MEMORIAL SKATEBOARD CONTEST.

Jonathan Anthony "Jon" Moak, who grew up in Malibu, was killed Jan. 12 in a skateboarding accident in Phoenix. He was 29.

Moak was born in Santa Monica on Nov. 29, 1978. He grew up in Malibu with his family, and attended Our Lady of Malibu School, Malibu Park Junior High School and Olympic High School. At the time of his death, he was attending the Motorcycle Mechanics Institute in Phoenix, maintaining a 4.0 grade point average. He was an honor student and was named "Tech of the Year." Moak was to graduate in June.

Action sports were his passion-enjoying skateboarding, snowboarding, surfing and motocross. Moak was skateboarding when he took a fall that ultimately killed him. He sustained massive head injuries and succumbed to his injuries. Moak was not wearing a helmet, and his life may have been spared if he had been wearing one.

Moak's family wrote in an e-mail to The Malibu Times, "Tell the ones you love that HELMETS SAVE LIVES."

 

 

Moak is survived by his mother, Margaret Sanchez Herron of Malibu; sister Barbara Herron Rae and her husband Darrell Rae; brother Dale Herron and his wife Genoveva Herron; brother Steven Moak and his fianc� Brianne; brother Jeff Moak and his wife Leah Moak and brother Greg Moak.

He is also survived by his extended family members, his girlfriend Amy Corrodi; his uncle Robert Sanchez; his nephews Lyon Herron, Harper Rae and Mason Moak and his nieces Izabella Herron, Cami Herron, Sofi Herron, Ashley Corrodi-Moak and Gianna Moak. He has numerous other uncles, aunts, cousins and friends. Along with immediate family, special friends, Terry Perry, Ben Garron, Prarie Pritchett and Marc Francke were at Moak's bedside vigil at the end of his life.

There will be a memorial service for Moak on Jan. 26 at 11 a.m. at Our Lady of Malibu Church, located at 3625 S. Winter Canyon Rd. Also, there will be a paddle-out at Zuma Beach Tower 9 on Jan. 27 at 8 a.m., followed by a celebration of Moak's life at his mother's Malibu home.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be sent to the Trauma Brain Injury Foundation, or TBI Foundation, on behalf of Jon Moak or the Desmoid Tumor Research Foundation on behalf of Lyon Herron, Moak's nephew.

Malibu, California (July 1, 2008) - The Ian Tilmann Foundation, Inc. and the City of Malibu California announce co-sponsorship of the "The Jon Moak Memorial Skate Contest" to be held Saturday, July 26, 2008 from 11:00am to 7:00pm at the Papa Jack’s Skate Park. The event will celebrate Jon Moak’s life growing up in Malibu and provide tribute to his tragic death from a skateboarding accident in early 2008. The event will focus on brain injury prevention, raise funds and provide FREE Helmets to skaters. The event will introduce The Ian Tilmann Foundation, Inc of Florida and launch it’s FREE Helmet program in California. The all day family event will be held at the Papa Jacks Skate Park located 23415 Civic Way Center in Malibu, California. There will be open skating and a skateboard competition for amateur and sponsored skaters. The skate competition will be hosted by CLOUT Ride Shop of Malibu. The event will include live bands, food, raffle prizes and much more! Come out and Skate in Memory of Jon Moak.

 

The Ian Tilmann Foundation’s mission is the prevention of brain injury with focus on skateboarding. The Foundation provides FREE Helmets to skaters who PROMISE to wear it

when engaged in skating boarding and other action sports. Since January 2006, The Ian Tilmann Foundation has distributed over 1,200 FREE helmets in Florida, Louisiana, and Pennsylvania. According to Marcy Tilmann, Foundation President, "The City of Malibu is the first public skate park to host an event in California for the Foundation’s FREE Helmet program. City sponsorship of the Jon Moak Memorial skate competition and fundraising event is greatly appreciated. The Foundation promotes the FREE Helmet program to prevent such senseless and preventable skateboarding deaths from happening to other families." The Foundation has presented the FREE Helmet program and safety message to thousands of Florida skaters. Proceeds from the event will go to purchase helmets for the Foundation’s Free Helmet Program. The Foundation looks forward to a successful launch of the FREE Helmet program on the west coast starting with Malibu, California. Marcy Tilmann expresses her gratitude for local support. "I thank Jon Moak’s mother, Marg Herron who has come forward to expand the Foundation’s Free Helmet program throughout California. The loss of our sons brings us together to turn senseless tragedy to the good with FREE Helmets for thousands of west coast skaters."

 

The Ian Tilmann Foundation, Inc. is a Florida Non-Profit 501 (c)(3) public charity. The Foundation was created in memory of Ian Lee Tilmann, an avid skateboarder who died in May 2005 from traumatic brain injury suffered in a skateboard accident. This event is in memory of Jon Moak, an avid skateboarder and action sportsman who died on January 12, 2008 from traumatic brain injury suffered in a skateboard accident. Jon was also not wearing a helmet at the time of the accident. The Foundation’s FREE helmet program hopes to prevent similar tragedies from happening to other skaters and their families. The FREE Helmet Program is a simple, direct intervention that is proven effective in preventing serious brain injury.
